Saido Made, a Senegalese attacker for Liverpool, has separated himself from the lavish lifestyle that other athletes lead.
Mane, who has 12 Premier League goals this season, says he prefers to be humble and live a simple life, and attributes his humility to his upbringing.
Mane even claimed in a recent interview that he follows Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar on social media, but that’s enough for him, and that certain sportsmen’ morals upset him.
‘I don’t want to give the appearance that I’m a very critical guy, but it’s true that there are values,’ Mane told L’Equipe.
In football, this irritates me a little because of my upbringing.
‘But instead of criticising, I prefer to distance myself. The main thing is not to change, and I believe I didn’t. For a boy who comes from a small town, it’s a great victory.’
He was also asked whether he’d like to live like Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo, to which the Liverpool winger said:
‘No! I follow them on social networks and that’s enough. I love the incredible life they lead, but I don’t think it’s for me.’
The 29-year-old also confirmed that his ultimate dream in football would be World Cup glory with his home country.
‘[Win] the World Cup with Senegal,’ Mane said.
‘First you have to guarantee qualification, but I want to believe in crazy projects, and winning the competition with my country is one of them. Gold every year.’
