Liverpool wins Chelsea on Saturday night, May 14, to win the 2022 Emirates FA Cup for the eighth time in club history
The Reds won the FA Cup for the first time in 16 years, defeating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a goalless draw in 90 minutes at Wembley.
In a rematch of the Carabao Cup final from February, the teams couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes of football, necessitating a penalty shootout.
Cesar Azpilicueta missed from 12 yards, allowing Liverpool to be one kick away from victory when Sadio Mane stepped up, but Edouard Mendy saved well.
After Mason Mount’s spot-kick was saved by Alisson in the Liverpool goal, Kostas Tsimikas stepped up, beat Mendy, and sent the Blues to their third FA Cup final defeat.
Thomas Tuchel and his players will be disappointed with the outcome.
Liverpool’s FA Cup victory was their second piece of silverware this season, following their Carabao Cup victory against Chelsea in February.
It is the sixth cup won by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool men’s football team and brings the club’s total to 50 major trophies.
The Reds previously won the FA Cup in 1965, 1974, 1986, 1989, 1992, 2001, and 2006.
