Nigeria will withdraw from all international basketball competitions for the next two years, according to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, announced this on Thursday, May 12.
Dare stated that the decision was made as part of the federal government’s plan to revitalize the sport from the ground up.
He stated;
“The government plans to use this break to address contentious issues among stakeholders.”
“The Interim Management Committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR) and membership will be announced in due course.”

Ismaila Abubakar, the ministry’s permanent secretary, who read the minister’s statement at a press conference, said the presidential order became necessary to demonstrate the government’s interest and commitment to the development of basketball in the country.
The Interim Management Committee (IMC) will oversee league management and development.
However, this comes amid a crisis within the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
